The Mission ... Should You Choose to Accept ....

Welcome ... I'm not even sure who I'm welcoming yet because I'm the only one here. I guess it doesn't hurt to be polite to yourself so, I'll accept my own welcome. I've decided to venture upon a new project and I'm looking forward to sharing it, blog-style, with the world. While perusing the internet ... I fell victim to the usual click bait until I ran across a very interesting article.

I had to click ... it couldn't be helped and I started to go down the list, clicking and taking in the various suggestions.... then it dawned on me. I COULD TOTALLY DO THIS LIST!!!! I mean, why not? I've always loved food and I've always loved finding new, sometimes unconventional, local deliciousness to try. Living in Atlanta metro again, I wanted to experience more home grown food and less big name commercial places. No more nights out at Applebee's (they don't even do 2 for 1 drinks here) when I could go and have a local craft drink and burger at a venue where the owner is on site and not just appointed by some board of trustees. No sir, no more sub par food for me. (okay, yes ...Applebee's sriracha shrimp are pretty damn good...)

We are always talking about getting healthier and upping the quality of food going into our body, and I feel like it's a lot easier to accomplish that if your "cheat days" are of a higher quality as well. You don't mind forgoing alcohol and fried food during the week if you know that a luscious 9-course tasting menu or a delicious artisanal burger is waiting for you at the end of the week. As I've gotten older, I've tried to focus on what really makes me happy instead of just accepting what's easiest, and this is one area that it's definitely accessible to obtain a higher quality product. Another benefit, I've recruited my husband to be my de facto partner in culinary crime on this journey. Along the way, I'm sure my friend Justin and possibly a few more will tag along but for the most part, it's him & I against the culinary world !

The rules are pretty simple :

1. We will visit at least 1 establishment a month. We have to keep our budget and our schedules in mind. We will try to get to more but, we have to AT LEAST hit up one.

2. We both must try the suggested dish. We will try it unaltered and lacking modification for any personal preferences. Can you really appreciate something if you go eff'ing with it's culinary formula before you even try it? I don't like raw onions, but for this ...if it comes with raw onions... I must suck it up and at least try it with said raw onions. I think this will be harder for him then for me.

3. Most Important - We will remember to enjoy ourselves and have a good time. This is a challenge and a mission but it's a mission of enjoyment. It's a way to drag us away from our comfort zone and allow us to expand both our physical borders and our culinary borders. I've never tried anything as fancy as bone marrow but it's on the list and I'm excited !

I'm looking forward to getting started and I have a pretty good idea where it will all begin. Elliott has asked me about a particular place and , even though I've had it, I will try it again just to be fair ... and give us a good, solid, jumping off point. Hope you all will enjoy reading about this adventure as much as I'll enjoy carrying it out.

Stay Satisfied,

Carmen
